First Mother's Day

You know that feeling you get when someone surprises you with something, or gives you a call just to say hi or even blowing out your birthday candles? Just that warm, fuzzy, special feeling inside your heart that makes you smile :)  That is how I felt this past weekend for Mother's day.  Being a mom is an awesome feeling!

Saturday morning I had to go to a dentist appointment and run some errands, so my parents came over to the house to watch Andrew.  Before they came over, Matt called me and said that he wanted to come home for lunch to grab some papers for work.  Well little did I know he brought home some beautiful flowers from Andrew for Mother's Day!  I felt so special and they smelt so pretty.  He also brought some lunch home which was very sweet of him!

After Matt left to go back to work, my parents came over to watch Andrew.  They just have a ball whenever they are around him!  It is so awesome to watch them be grandparents.  The way they act and play with Andrew just puts a smile on my face!  They are going to spoil him to death! Yes, Andrew is there first grandchild and hopefully not their last!

These are some pictures my dad took of Andrew that morning.  Love his smile and I can't wait to hear him laugh!

After I ran my errands, came home and started working on dinner.  Since Matt was still working, my dad helped me out by grilling.  We had hamburgers, brats, hot dogs, chips, potato salad, beans, brownies and cake to eat! It was all delicious! Then we opened up some gifts.  My sister, mom and grandma gave me all a Mother's Day card and they all said Happy 1st Mother's Day in them! Going back to that warm fuzzy feeling in my heart :) My grandma gave me a knock out rose bush that we planted in the front of the house.  My sister and I gave my mom some flowers and a Shutterfly photobook.  The photobook had pictures of my sister and I from when we were little up till current pictures.  It also had a section in the back of being a grandma for the first time and pictures of Andrew.  Every time I made a Shutterfly book, she would always ask me if she could keep it.  So I finally made her one of her own and she could show everyone pictures of Andrew.  She is such a proud grandparent!  All in all I had a fabulous 1st Mother's Day weekend and I can't wait for what the future holds!

Better late than never!

Once upon a time a girl met a boy and they fell in love. They dated for a while, married, and started a little family.  This is their happy little story!

I have always wanted to start a blog for family and friends to keep up to date on our little family.  After reading some of my friends blogs and seeing what was going on in their lives, I finally started!  As people say, it's never too late to start one!

Andrew Joseph Harris joined this world on February 22, 2013 at 3:46 am.  He weighed 7 lbs 3.4 oz and was 20 in. long. We were truly blessed with Andrew coming into our lives and have loved every second of being mom and dad!

God was watching out for us when Andrew was born.  My originally due date was February 21 and that happened to be the day we had that HUGH snow storm.  Luckily Matt got the day off and we just spend the it inside since it was snowing like crazy.  All day long I could tell something was different.  I was getting stronger pain but to pass the time and pain, I cleaned up the house since we were stuck inside.  We also decided to do our taxes at 9 o'clock at night!  After we got done with our taxes my body just felt funny and I told Matt it was time to go to the hospital.  It was about 10:30 pm when we left the house.  Matt had worked hard to shovel the drive way VERY quickly and we were off to the hospital!  I thought I was going into false labor but little did I know we would have our very beautiful baby boy in our arms in just a few short hours!

We drove to Olathe Medical and it took us about 25 mins to get there.  The highways were nice and plowed.  We took our time of course and got to the hospital around 11 pm.  Checked in and the nurse wheeled me up to my room!  Again I thought I was having a false labor.  The nurses told me that they would check me out and if nothing was going on that they would just send us back home.  Well the nurses checked and I was dilated 3-4 cm and she said you are going to have this baby!  I was shocked/nervous/excited/happy/scared all the emotions a person goes through when they are about to become a parent!

I recommend the epidural if you are wanting to go that path!  My contractions were tense up to that point.  I can't really describe them.  Only moms would know what I am talking about!  After the epidural, the nurses wanted to speed up my dilating process and let me tell you my nurse rocked! She had me lay on one side for an hour, I dilated more.  Turned me over for another hour, I dilated more.  Turned me over one more time and I was ready to push this baby out!

A couple of hours later at 3:46 am on February 22, 2013 Andrew Joseph Harris came into this world!

Andrew had lots of visitor!

After staying in the hospital for a couple of days, we went home on Sunday.  My parents and sister came over, brought lunch and helped around the house.  I slept the entire time they were there.  After my parents left and the TRUE parenthood responsibilities came upon us.  No more nurses, doctors, or family members there to help us out 24/7 and let me tell you it changes your mind set completely   The first couple of weeks I think I got 2 hours of sleep each night and not a complete 2 hours!  It would be like for 30 mins or so but I was thankful I was getting that sleep.  After a couple of weeks Andrew and I were on a schedule.

A couple of weeks ago, Andrew slept through the night all by himself! We didn't hear him get up at all, so we just continued to do so!  Andrew had a couple of rough nights but it was totally worth it because now he is sleeping through the night from about 9 pm to 7 am!  Never knew I would miss a full nights rest but it was totally worth every second!

First holiday to celebrate with Andrew was Easter.  We went over to my parents house for lunch and hung out with the family.  My grandparents got to meet him for the first time!

Andrew's first road trip was to Wichita to see Grandpa, Grandma and Great Grandma Harris.  That is a 100 year old lady holding a 1 month old baby!

Also I started working from home 4 weeks ago.  Andrew and I had to get into a routine but we have made it work for the both of us.  I get in the work hours and he gets in his naps and play time with mommy.  While I am working he is awake most of the day with 3 one hour naps.  When he is awake he usually plays with his "jungle gym".  I don't know what it is really called but I have attached a couple of things to it and he loves it!  Especially the tambourine by his feet.  He will bring his feet up to his chest then slam them back to the ground.  He definitely likes to make noises!  I can see some day, him on the kitchen floor with all my pots and pans out playing on them like they are musical instruments.

It's definitely fun watching him grow and learn different things.  Right now he has figured out his hands and fingers.  Grabbing different things like my hair, or necklaces or other peoples fingers.  At Andrew's 2 month check up he weighed 11 lbs 3 oz and was 23.5 inches long.  He also had to get his 2 month shots :(  He was not very happy about it but just slept it off after we got home.  Usually on Monday nights we go to small group but decided to stay home to let him rest.

I think this is a good start to our blog! Hopefully now I will start blogging special days in one blog and not jam packing it all into one!  This weekend is my first mother's day and I am super super happy to be spending it with my grandma, mom, and son!  Very thankful for Andrew each and every day! We thank God that he has brought him into not only our lives but our family and friends.

Love Michelle Matt and Andrew
