This past couple of months have been a roller coaster of emotions. We've had high highs and really lows and it's almost over. A little over a month ago we put in an offer for a house in Cimarron, KS. They accepted the offer, Yahoo! We're thinking "Yay we found a house but wait we haven't sold the house in Columbia yet. Maybe we will get an offer soon. But the weather hasn't been that great. Great we're going to have two mortgages but we can do this!" = Stress.
After the sellers accept our offer, we found out that the house goes into pre-foreclosure. =more stress
Then we find out we have to close by March 9th so it doesn't go into foreclosure. = more stress
So are you with me. WE ARE STRESSED
So, we have to go into stealth mode and get our loan figured out and ready by March 6th so we can close on Monday March 9th.
After numerous nights of scan this, scan that, don't forget this, don't forget that, redo this, redo that, scan this again, scan that again and two and a half weeks, we finally get everything sent over to the loan people.
While I'm doing this, I'm also taking care of a 2 year old, taking care of a house, cleaning it when needed to show for showings, calling the moving company and setting everything up, calling other people involved and oh yeah working.
So everything is ready, the loan is approved, we are set to close on the 9th and the movers come on the 4th. Great!
The movers come on the 4th and start packing up the house.
Me: "There are just two of you?"
Head Driver: "Yep."
Me: "Oh, well last year we had three guys pack our house up and it was a smaller house. I just figured they would send the same amount."
Head Driver: "Okay"
Well okay then.
I worked Wednesday since I knew they could start upstairs and do downstairs the next day. Everything went great on Wednesday. They packed everything upstairs and started on the downstairs. Thursday they finished the downstairs and started loading something's in the truck Thursday afternoon. I was thinking, yay they will definitely be done by Friday afternoon.
Friday comes and they don't get to the house till about 8:45 am when the other two days they got there at about 8:00 am. They start to load more into the truck and they had the upstairs done by lunch. Then they get to the basement and it starts going downhill, they lose energy or something. 2 pm comes, 3 pm comes still have a lot to load.
3:30 comes and the loan office guy calls.
Loan Guy: "Um, did you know you were closing on the 12th and not the 9th?"
Me: "What?!# Noooo!
Loan Guy: "They are still waiting for the payout statement to come in. I would call your real estate agent and talk to her."
Me: "Um, okay."
So I call our real estate agent.
Me "Um, Susan why are we closing on the 12th and not Monday. I have movers here packing up the house and delivering on Tuesday the 10th!"
Susan: "Well I didn't know you had the movers there. You should have been more in communication with me about that. The Title company and bank had a closing date of the 12th marked down."
Me: "I thought we HAD to close by the 9th so the house wouldn't go into Foreclosure????? That's why the movers are here, so we can move in Tuesday."
Susan: "I never told you we HAD to close by the 9th. That was just a "wishing" date. The contract says the 31st."
Me: (steam coming from ears, heart racing, stress!) Um okay so what do we do now?"
Susan: "We wait."
Me: "Okay, I have to call a whole bunch of people and will call you back with an update. Bye."
So I continue to call the moving company, utility companies, DirecTV to reschedule the install at the Cimarron house, my parents to update them and my boss. We were basically in a waiting period until the bank received the payout statement. I was scheduled to go back to work on the 12th but since the move in date was up in the air, I took the 12th and 13th off just in case. Thank God I work at an awesome company and my boss is understanding. That whole week went by and we didn't have the paperwork. Oh, and did I mention I got strep throat that week too. Yay, go me!
So the weekend of the 14th of March comes and we are trying to figure out what to do about my work. My computer is packed away in the semi (when I told them to pack it last) so I had no computer to work on. Matt came up with the idea that I could go back to Kansas City, stay with my parents for the week and work. We were staying in Minneola for the week because we though we would get the paperwork sometime and close on the house. Well we didn't get the paperwork so I called my boss up to run the idea by him. Since I had strep throat he didn't want me to come into work without a note from my doctor saying that I was clear to work. I knew I still wasn't feeling well. I did remember that my dad had an extra computer at the house. So I ran the idea by my boss to work from my parents house for the week, He was good to go and so my dad set up the computer for me. That Sunday I drove from Minneola to Lansing to stay with my parents for the week and work. Set everything up for work Monday morning. It was really nice to hang out with my parents for the week.
Wednesday comes and we get the news of the week. The bank got the payout statement, YES!!!! So we set everything up to close on Friday the 20th. I travel back to Minneola Thursday night after work. That was a long night but I made it there by 10 pm.
Friday morning comes and I have to run just a small amount of errands. I go to the City of Cimarron Post Office to get a P.O. Box. No, we do not have a mailbox. We have to go to the post office to get our mail. I different but neat change for us. Andrew loves going to the post office. After getting that, I go to City Hall to get the utilities changed over to our names. Then I go to United Wireless in Dodge to sign up for internet. Had to do that in person after I got a P.O. Box and not over the phone. After that I drive to Garden City, pick up Matt from work and head over to the bank. I didn't mention before but we close on the house at 1 pm and we get to the bank at 12:30. We get the closing check and get something notarized for Andrew's daycare. It's 12:50 by the way when we walk out of the bank. Luckily the title company was just a couple of blocks away. We sign our life away and close on the house, yahoo!
Matt and I get some lunch finally, go to Home Depot to get paint and paint supplies and then head to the house for a painting party. Matt's parents come over to help out with painting and with Andrew. We paint Andrew's room before they got there so Andrew could check out his room. Matt's parents watched Andrew all day while we were running around. After Andrew's room, we paint our room. The movers were set up to come in the morning, unpack the van on Saturday, then help us unpack boxes on Sunday.
We stayed at Matt's parents house Friday night and got up early, early Saturday morning to meet the movers over at the house. The movers get there and the day starts out okay. Michele, Matt's sister comes over to help unpack and get some boxes for herself. Her and her family are moving from Liberal, KS to Oklahoma. The afternoon comes and the movers don't ever have half the semi unloaded. I'm thinking, here we go again! Why did they only send 2 movers??? By the end of the day at 6 pm, the movers did not have the semi done. Matt and I are upset because they were supposed to have the semi unpacked so they can help us on Sunday.
Matt's boss lives in Cimarron also and was kind enough to invite us over for dinner Friday AND Saturday night. Everything was delicious on both nights! I think it was just really nice to have a home cooked meal after all the work we went through.
Sunday morning the movers get there and finish unpacking the semi around noon. Matt and I are so upset with them that we just tell them to leave and we will unpack everything. All day long we would over hear them complaining about something and thought they were very unprofessional. I talked to our moving company consultant about the whole thing and she was very disappointed in them and said that's not their way of working.
After all is said and done, we are finally in our house and it's becoming our home! Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers! We are happy to be in our home!
We still haven't sold the house in Columbia but we have accepted an offer. The only catch is they need to sell their house first. So please pray for us that the house will sell in due time!
