Happy 4th!

Last Thursday, my parents, sister and her fiancé Mark came to Columbia for the weekend.  My parents were the first to arrive and we went to pick up Andrew from daycare.  We had dinner and then after that my sister and Mark showed up.  This was their first time here, so we showed them around the house and relaxed/played video games for the rest of the night.

Friday morning we headed to Clark, Missouri or as the locals call it, Amish town. It's located about 30 mins North of Columbia.  We first visited a home that was selling baked and leather goods.  They had this little shop in the front of their house and it smelt so good! Carbs overload though lol! We ended up getting some jalapeño cheese bread, snicker doodle cookies, chocolate chip cookies, a couple of little turnovers (although they called it something else that I can't remember), strawberry jam, a pecan pie and cinnamon roll! I tried the cinnamon roll and one of the cookies.  They were very good and you could tell everything was hand made.  Man, I am surprised I didn't gain any weight lol. We checked out the barn area where the husband was making belts.  He had saddles, leashes, and other things made out of leather.  Since the Amish don't like photography much, I didn't take any pictures out of respect.

After that we headed over to a house to look at some rugs and then headed over to a couple of houses for some fresh produce.  We got some cucumbers which were the "burp less" ones.  They were very delicious.  We also bought a cabbage and cantaloupe. We also went to a house were the grandfather made hand-made baskets and grandfather clocks.  Everything was beautiful and I bought a basket.  I use it as a salt/pepper/napkin holder on the kitchen table.  You appreciate things more when you know where it came from and know that it is hand made.  After that we headed to a home where one of the gentlemen hand makes furniture.  Everything in the store was beautiful.  If anyone wants to go back and buy Andrew the little rocker, I would be okay with that.  He had dining room tables, chairs, rockers, baby high chairs, dog beds, baskets, cutting boards, desks and some other things I probably forgot.

Sitting in the rocker.

After that it was time for lunch.  We headed to Freebirds to all try it for the first time.  I got the chicken bowl.  Personally I prefer Chipotle.  Didn't care for the chicken (it was cold) and he put like A LOT of sour cream on my bowl.  I did like the chips and cheese dip.  Maybe next time I will have to try the nachos or add the cheese dip to the bowl.  I am sure we will be back since it's a Pepsi account :)

After lunch we headed back to the house so Andrew could take his nap and to rest ourselves. We watched the hot dog eating contest and all I can say is wow! I don't know if I will want to eat a hot dog for a little bit. After everyone freshened up, we headed downtown for dinner and then the fireworks.  We ate at Flat Branch Pub and Brewery.  Since we were downtown, it was the 4th and the fireworks were literally going off across the street, we knew the wait would be long.  They told us an hour and 15 mins.  So my dad and Matt took Andrew down the hill to keep him occupied till it was time to eat.  I got the Honey Wheat beer which was really good.  Nice balance of sweet to hops. After waiting maybe 10 mins we were buzzed to sit down. We though they did it on accident but it was real. Renee was recommended this restaurant by a coworker and she said to try the pretzel with spinach dip appetizer.  It was very good, the pretzel was very crisp on the outside and soft on the inside.  The spinach dip was delicious! I could of ate that by itself.  I got the sausage and mushroom pizza which was also delicious.

Pretzel and spinach dip. Very delicious!

Andrew got an honorary badge from the fire department.

My pizza was delicious!

So we ordered Andrew the kid's cheese fries and they made a double for him! It was a ridiculous amount of cheese.  Not very many fries lol.

After dinner we headed down to the kid area.  The lines were so long for everything so we just listened to the live music. After waiting for just an hour, we watched the fireworks.  This was Andrew's first time listening and watching fireworks.  He was definitely scared but after about 5 mins he warmed up to them. The Columbia fireworks were great to watch!

Happy Fourth of July!

Saturday morning my mom, sister and I went to get pedicures and go shopping! Matt was working so my dad and Mark stayed home with Andrew.  After we got home from shopping, we cooked out our fifth of July cook out.  My mom made her famous potato salad, my sister made mac 'n cheese, hamburgers, watermelon and cabbage.  After our late lunch, my parents, sister and Mark headed back home so they could rest on Sunday.  It was great for them to come and visit us in Columbia.  Always nice hanging out with family!

Happy Father's Day!

He's a very hard working man, provides for this family, changes diapers, helps around the house and has to put up with me!  He's been my rock, my best friend and a great husband.  From our marriage, to moving to Columbia, I know we will be there for each other through thick and thin!
Love you Matt Harris!

Mini KC Trip

A couple of weeks ago we took a little trip to Kansas City.  Matt had the week off and I took a couple of days off. We headed up Wednesday after I was done with work.  We wanted to try and leave at 330 pm but ended up leaving after 5 pm because I was having computer issues at work. Not a good way stress free way to start a relaxing vacation. We stayed at Mike and Steph's house while they were on vacation in Hawaii.  Thank you again guys for letting us stay there! We relaxed for the rest of the night.

Thursday we went to lunch at a BBQ restaurant in Shawnee then headed to Kansas City Missouri.  There we went to the Negro League Baseball museum.  Matt had been there before but I had never been there.  It was a very neat experience.  Andrew liked running around in the "baseball field".  We were trying to get him to run the bases but he was just running all over the place.  After the museum we went to the Brass Armadillo Antique Shop.  This antique shop is right off I-70 and we drive past it every time we head back to Columbia.  I have always wanted to go and we finally had the opportunity to go.  If you love antique shopping, you will love this place! It's huge and has so much to choose from.  Although the prices were a little on the high side for us, we did end up getting a few things.  Matt got a couple of bobble-heads and I got a cute "Apples for 5 cents" sign to hang in the kitchen.  After that we headed home, Pizza Shoppe for dinner and watched the Royals game.

Andrew still thinks he's a baby!

Helping daddy mow Uncle Mike's yard.

He was having fun!

Friday was a light but exciting day.  We all slept in till like 9 am I think which was awesome, had some breakfast and then headed to the Great Mall. We needed to kill some time before we went over to Jon and Leslie's house for some fellowship and dinner.  We didn't buy anything at the mall, just walked around and let Andrew burn some energy off.  We ended up going back to the house after the mall so Andrew could take his nap.  Matt and I relaxed while watching some TV.  After Andrew woke up, we headed over to Jon and Leslie's for dinner.  We ate a very good taco meal and talked about the kitchen.  Yes we are designing another kitchen for another house.  We knew this going into the house that we would have to do another.  The only difference is that this kitchen is a total gut.  We are getting new cabinets, tearing out the old pantry to make the laundry room bigger and demoing a wall in between the kitchen and the family room to make it one big room like our old house in Gardner.  Don't worry I will keep you updated on everything! We just finalized on a drawing that I mocked up and need to get measurements over to Jon.  Hopefully he will be able to come sometime at the end of July.  It was very nice to see Jon, Leslie and the kids.  I am sure the kids enjoyed their time with Andrew.

This is the attached island in the middle of the kitchen that will be knocked out.

This is the wall between the kitchen and the family room which is being knocked out hopefully.
It's load baring = expensive

This wall is going to be floor to ceiling pantry/cupboards.

This is all the prep space I have which is enough for some but not for me :)

On Saturday we were supposed to go to World of Fun but it rained all morning and didn't stop till around noon.  So we all decided to go to Dave and Buster's to eat lunch and play some games.  Michele, Jim, Alissa, Butch and Sandy all came up Friday night to see us (mostly Andrew time :)  Along with all of them plus Carolyn, Mitch and the kids all went.  We had a great time for lunch.  It was nice to see everyone.  We played some games and I hit it big on the Wheel of Fortune game!  You get three spins and then guess letters.  Well whatever number the spin lands on, that is how many tickets you win.  I hit 300 tickets and I guessed the letter "A".  There were 3 "A" so I got 900 tickets!!!! I was so excited!!  With all the tickets that Matt and I collected, we got Andrew a Teenage Mutan Ninja Turtle and a little basketball.

Mitch and Carolyn had a competition

Nice form Carolyn!

Andrew and daddy playing a game.

After Dave and Buster's, Jim, Michele, Butch and Sandy took all the kids home while Matt, Mitch, Carolyn and I had some grown up time at the Casino.  I never win at those places so I don't know why I bother trying.  It's fun if you can play for awhile but if you loose $20 in 10 mins, it's no fun lol.  After the casino we headed to the Royals game.  It was a great game and they won! We got to see a couple of home runs and some great offense.  Plus beating the Yankee's is great to see!

Sunday morning Carolyn, Hailey, McKenzie and I went to see Maleficent at the movies.  Mike, Stephanie and the kids were coming back from Hawaii this day and we all wanted to have a family BBQ before we headed back to our homes.  It was great to see everyone and the trip was great too!

Playing games and BBQing! Love family time!

Andrew 15 Months

This post is a little over due, sorry! The past three months have been a whirlwind with moving to Columbia, unpacking, settling in and having a toddler in the house! I figured since Andrew is over one now, I wouldn't need to do a blog for every month.  He is definitely growing and not a baby anymore.  We have a toddler in our house now.  Andrew is becoming more of his own person with a strong head or stubbornness, whatever you'd like to call it lol. Loves going to daycare and knows when we are going.  In the morning once he is done getting ready, he goes by the garage door and waits for me.  The daycare is right down the street from our house, so on nice days I walk Andrew down in his car.  He loves riding in that car.  Every time we go out to the garage, even if we aren't going to daycare he wants to get in that car.  He gets very upset if I tell him we are going in the big car to run errands or go somewhere. It's amazing how much more joy a child will bring to your life and we have enjoy every moment watching Andrew grow up.  Below is a list of his some favorite/not so favorite things, updates about Andrew, and some pictures! Enjoy!
